ENSEMBLES
Marching Band
The award-winning Silver Sound Marching Band includes both student musicians and performers in Color Guard. The Silver Sound season begins with band camp in July. After band camp, rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. There are occasional rehearsals on Friday evenings and Saturdays.
The Silver Sound performs the half time program at all home football games and select away games. Our first marching band competition of the season is the Seminole Sound Spectacular at Seminole High School in late September. The Silver Sound typically competes at the Tarpon Springs Outdoor Music Festival in mid-October and MPAs in early November.
The Silver Sound Marching Band handbook was created by the student leadership and staff to help ensure everyone understands the expectations for all members of the Silver Sound Marching Band. Members and parents are expected to review this handbook. The last page is to be printed, signed, and returned to Mr. Black the start of band camp.

Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is a select group of student musicians who perform a wide variety of advanced and challenging literature. Auditions may take place to determine placement into this group, or students may be selected at the discretion of the Director based on demonstrated ability and/or work ethic. Instrumentalists enrolled in the Wind Ensemble class must be in the marching band.
Rehearsals include daily in-class rehearsals, after-school Tuesday / Thursday rehearsals and sectionals, occasional Friday and Saturday rehearsals/performances. Other activities include FBA District Music Performance Assessment, Solo and Ensemble Performances, PRISM concert, graduation rehearsal and performance.
DRAMA CLUB PRESENTS:
Each spring select band members perform in the orchestra for the Drama Department's musical. This is a wonderful opportunity for our musicians to experience performing live music with a theater production.
TICKETS AVAILABLE FROM THE DRAMA DEPARTMENT.
Concert Band
The Concert Band is an ensemble which provides students exciting opportunities to develop their musicality in preparation for participation in the Wind Ensemble. Due to the nature of maintaining the Wind Ensemble’s size, not all members will be eligible to participate in the group, even if they are qualified. These students will act as mentors as leaders within the Concert Band.
Rehearsals include daily in-class rehearsals, after-school Tuesday / Thursday rehearsals and sectionals, occasional Friday and Saturday rehearsals/performances. Other activities include FBA District Music Performance Assessment, Solo and Ensemble Performances, PRISM concert, graduation rehearsal and performance.
Jazz Ensemble
The East Lake High School Jazz Ensemble operates throughout the year. The membership is open to any ELHS student. However, at the Director’s discretion, auditions may take place to determine placement within the group.
Rehearsals are daily during class with occasional sectionals after school. Other activities include: occasional after-school sectionals and Saturday performances, quarterly concerts, FBA District Music Performance Assessment, and various festivals and/or “gig” opportunities.
Percussion Ensemble
The East Lake Percussion Ensemble meets year-round as a percussion class. The membership is comprised of all percussionists. Percussionists should enroll in “Instrumental Techniques.” All enrolled members must be in the marching band.
Rehearsals include: daily during class, after-school Tuesday / Thursday rehearsals and sectionals, occasional Friday and Saturday rehearsals / performances. Other activities include FBA District Music Performance Assessment, Solo and Ensemble Performances, PRISM concert, graduation rehearsals and performance.
Winter Guard
Winter guard is an opportunity for all band members to participate in color guard. Winter guard practices two days per week after school. Winter guard also competes in several competitions in February and March. Refer to Guard page for more details and to download the Guard handbook.
